Chapter One

Nashville, Tennessee

“Are you sure I won’t be invading on your privacy, Aunt Leslie?” Sasha Spaulding asked, drawing back the sheers inside the living room of her townhouse to peer out the window. The full moon settled in the dark night sky. A red truck was parked on the curb across the street beneath a tree.

Waiting for her boyfriend Reggie to come home so she could tell him she was breaking up with him, Sasha’s whole body tensed. Nervousness knotted inside her. Oh God, how was she going to tell Reggie she was ending their relationship? Sasha thought, releasing a soft sigh. Reggie means me no good, I have to leave him. I’m sick and tired of his cheating and doggish ways. I should’ve left Reggie a long time ago.

Leslie Spaulding replied with, “Of course you’re not invading on my privacy, Sasha. You’re my niece, and you can come stay with me for as long as you’d like. I could use some company in this big old house. Who knows, you just might meet your husband here.”

Sasha shook her head negatively. Getting married was the last thing on her mind. Once she got out of this absurd relationship with Reggie, she didn’t have any intentions of settling down. Once she got to Hilton Head Island, she planned on spending time with her favorite aunt, take her songwriting career to the next level, and enjoying the beach. But as far as a man was concerned, she felt like she didn’t need one.

To hell with men. “I’m never getting married or having any kids, Aunt Leslie. After I get out of this horrible situation with Reggie, I’m going to take it easy and focus on my songwriting career.”

Leslie replied with, “Oh, Sasha. Don’t say that.
