Just a Positive Pregnancy Test - London Casey Page 0,3

how to lie?

I turned and walked back to the counter.

“Did you forget something?” the man asked.

“These pregnancy tests are mine,” I said. “I was seeing a guy on the road. I’m a singer. He’s a rock star. He came to meet my family. We fell in love. Then things got really messy. He left town to keep touring but we still talk. He doesn’t know about this though. I don’t know how to tell him yet. I want to be sure that I’m… you know…”

The man behind the counter nodded. “Well, I think ten pregnancy tests will do the trick.”

“I could really use a drink right now, right?” I asked.

The man lifted an eyebrow.

“That was a bad joke,” I said. “I would never… you know… I’m a good person.”

“Okay. Good to know.”

“I didn’t plan on getting pregnant, okay?”

“Sure.”

“It just happened. Somehow. I don’t even know how it happened. I mean, I know how it happened. Silas and I went at it like…” My cheeks burned hot. “Sorry. You don’t need those details.”

“I don’t need any details, big or small.”

“Right. Sorry.” I started to turn but stopped. “It’s just that I haven’t had anyone to talk to about it. So this is all pent up inside of me. So it’s good to get it out. And since you’re a stranger and I’ll never see you again, why the hell not?”

The man put his hands to the counter. “Anything else?”

“I think that’s it for now,” I said. “Want me to stop back in and share the results?”

I laughed. Weakly.

The man didn’t smile back.

I realized I had definitely worn out my welcome.

I hurried out of the store, embarrassed, ready to cry.

There was no time to cry though. I needed to keep all focus on fluids turning into pee. I opened the first bottle of soda and started to drink.

I had ten pregnancy tests to take.

And one life changing result to be seen.

I finally felt the urge to go pee.

I let out a cheer of relief and grabbed the first test.

Of course the anxiety of being alone in a room at the inn while chugging soda and staring at ten pregnancy tests made me freeze up and not want to use the bathroom.

Before I could make it to the bathroom, I heard a knock at the door.

“No,” I whispered.

Then my mind thought… What if it’s Silas? Coming to surprise you?

I ran to the door and opened it.

“Mila!” Beth said.

“Beth,” I said, exhaling.

Beth… as in the owner of the inn.

“What is that in your hand?”

I looked down and saw the pregnancy test.

I quickly threw it over my shoulder.

My eyes grew wide.

Beth stared, waiting for an answer.

“Sex toy,” I blurted out.

“Oh?”

“Yeah,” I said. “It was a sex toy. You know, I’m alone here. Silas is on the road. Still have to feel something, right?”

“Hmm,” Beth said. “I hope that’s for your clit, but if not, you need a little girth there.”

My jaw fell open and almost hit the floor.

Beth giggled and shrugged her shoulders. “Too much?”

“Uh… I… um… girth…”

“I was just stopping by to check on you,” Beth said. “And to let you know I made too many chocolate chip cookies. They’re cooling off. I can leave some outside the door for you.”

“Sure,” I said. “Thanks.”

“Perfect. I won’t knock or anything. Just in case you’re… you know… handling your lady parts…”

“Oh, Beth, please don’t…”

“Just know this,” Beth said. “When you do orgasm, there will be a cookie waiting.”

“Win, win,” I said.

Beth smiled and shuffled away back toward the main office of the inn.

I stepped back and shut the door.

I shut my eyes.

Beth.

Sweet, old Beth… talking about clits and girth and… cookies…

I shook my head.

The urge to pee had gone away again.

The urge came back a short while later.

I sat on the edge of the couch and stared at the pregnancy tests. They were all lined up in order of use. Test after test… after test…

All ten of them were graced by me.

The good news was that by the time I got to the seventh test, I had mastered how to pee on a pregnancy test without making a mess.

Not sure how that newfound skill was going to come in handy at any other point in my life, but at least it was something.

I reached for the container of chocolate chip cookies and bit into the soft, gooeyness with delight.

It was after the fourth pregnancy test that Beth left the cookies for me.

She made too much noise so I opened the door and surprised her.

She handed me
