Just One Glance (Oh Tequila #5) - C.A. Harms Page 0,2

I am.

With each entry to the list, Darcy put her own spin on it. I would probably regret this, in fact I was sure I’d feel so much shame when I was done, but I hadn’t remembered a time I’d smiled so much.

This was it, the moment of do or die. I could step up or I could continue to be invisible.

“So about those heels…”

Chapter Two

Jay

I climbed into the cab of my truck and placed the key in the ignition. Firing up the engine, it purred to life. My father might be a shitty father. He might have spent ninety percent of my life vanishing for weeks at a time, but one thing was for sure, he provided financially for my sister and me. We never had to go without, we had nice clothes, nice cars, and a fully paid education. He paid for my sister’s apartment, even when she was living with her douchebag ex, and paid for everything I could want. What kids can say that they had an account that every month like clockwork their father made a hefty deposit into, no questions asked?

It would have been nice to have him around more growing up, maybe show a little interest in us and what we actually enjoyed. But after a while, a kid stops expecting a parent to care. I know Jade and I did. Instead we relied on each other, stood by each other. Our mother was just as unreliable as our father. She was on her fifth husband, and if he’s anything like the ones before, she was most likely sailing on some yacht or off in some foreign country.

I rarely touched the money my father offered, but when he showed up with a brand new Raptor, lifted and the fully loaded, I accepted. It would have been rude to decline.

My truck was my one true joy, I fucking loved it.

Shifting the truck into drive, I eased up on the brake and then I heard it. A rattle, humming vibration someplace in the cab.

Pressing the brake once more, I shifted into park and waited. Looking behind my seat, in the center console, and reaching beneath me, I still found nothing. But I could hear it. Almost like it was against metal, leaving an echoing noise.

Opening the door, I climbed out and started looking around in the cab of my truck. Under seats, in door pockets, the glove box, only to come up empty.

Then it stopped.

Looking behind me, I honestly thought I was losing my fucking mind.

Climbing back inside the cab of my truck, I paused with my hand on the keys, listening to the silence, ensuring that the hum was truly gone. With the roar of the engine, once again the vibration began and I slammed my hand on the steering wheel. “What the fuck?”

This time I left the truck running, reached under the dash to pop the hood, and climbed out once more. This was a new truck, and if one of my brothers thought screwing with it would be a good idea I’d run over them to prove they were wrong.

Dicks.

I’d spent more than ten minutes looking under the hood, finding nothing. The vibration was nowhere, in fact I could no longer hear it.

That was until I walked back around and stood at the driver’s side once more. It was coming from inside, and it was pulsing now.

Grabbing the mats, I tossed them to the ground, reaching beneath the seat once again. Still nothing. Rounding the back of the truck, I opened the passenger door and started doing the same. Leaning over, I placed my hand on the seat cushion, and that was when I felt it. The same pulsing sounds could be felt in the same pattern on my palm. It was in the fucking seat.

Digging out anything from the floorboard, I cleared a space to reach beneath. The pulsing stopped. “Motherfucker!” The booming of my voice echoed through the cab.

App controlled vibrator. Movement from the opposite side gained my attention and I looked up to see Corbin and Clayton standing at the edge of the road looking through now widely opened doors.

Clayton was concentrating on his phone, Corbin held an apple in his hands. Dude was always eating something.

“What’s got you in such a tizzy?”

A tizzy?

“Your face is all flushed, almost like you are overexerting yourself. Maybe riding that high, getting real, real close, only to miss out on that moment of release.” Corbin snickered and Clay’s smile grew wider. “Are
