extracted a piece of paper, sliding it across the desk. "I wouldn't call it tardy, considering she missed the first hour of school. In her records, we mark that as an unexcused absence."

Each morning, he got Trina out of bed before taking off for the clubhouse. He knew her routine well enough to know she'd have a piece of toast or skip breakfast altogether. Then, she walked to school.

Mr. Brown steepled his hands on the desk. "According to the rules of the school, after two unexcused absences, the student must be punished."

"Okay." He remained sitting.

Everything he'd learned since enrolling Trina had him believing the school could deal with her. Hell, it was three days of showing up late. What could he do about it?

"With repeated unexcused absences, the student is suspended for three days."

"You're suspending my kid?"

"Trina can finish the school day today but needs to stay home on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday." Mr. Brown checked his watch. "Then, she can return on Monday."

"You're going to punish her for missing school by removing her from the school?" He stood. "Seems like a fucked up rule to me."

Walking out of the office, he strode past Maxi's curious smile and left the building. What a crock of shit.

He got on his Harley and roared down the street to Trip and Bonnie's house. His MC brother had more experience dealing with the school, considering Bonnie's sons from a previous relationship also attended Avery Falls School with Trina.

Before he rolled to a stop in the driveway, he became aware of Trip opening the front door. He shut off the bike and followed Trip's lead into the house.

As soon as the door shut, he said, "Why's the fucking school open if they can't keep the kids contained during the day?"

"The teachers are paid to educate the children, not babysit them." Trip walked into the kitchen and returned, holding two cans of beer. "Whose kid wasn't at school?"

He popped the top and chugged half the liquid. Despite Trip being set free from the Alpha Bio Project, his MC brother retained his enhancements. Of course, neither one could get drunk off the alcohol but drinking together was about the brotherhood.

It was important for Trina to continue going to school. He needed her away from the house during the day while he dealt with club business.

"Trina showed up late to school three times. Now the school has suspended her until Monday." He sat down in the chair. "I don't know what to do."

"Swing by The Shack and talk to Bonnie." Trip tipped back his can. "She'll know how to handle Trina."

None of their training prepared him to raise a teenage daughter. He crushed the can and set it on the floor. Since the recent changes inside him, the empty headspace that was always present frustrated him.

He understood there was a problem, but the solution escaped him.

Standing up, he walked to the door. "I'll go talk to her."

"Might want to hurry. The kids get out in five minutes."

"Fuck." He walked out, jumped on his Harley, and sped away.

The Shack, a bicycle and outdoor equipment rental business where Bonnie worked, was only a minute away. Bonnie knew about the project—as much as Trip had told her, which he suspected wasn't much. Only enough to get her to stop asking questions and give Avery Falls Motorcycle Club members the privacy they needed. She would understand why he needed help.

A line of traffic, going the opposite direction, passed him on the bridge. He slowed, knowing most of them were parents picking up their kids at the school.

As soon as he crossed the river, he passed the car in front of him on the right and cut across the parking lot for the boat landing. He pulled to a stop beside The Shack.

Bonnie stepped outside of the small, square building. The sun glinted off her red hair as she lifted her hand and waved to him.

He got off the bike. "Do you have a minute?"

"Sure." Bonnie approached him. "What's up?"

Not understanding why the school would have a problem with three unexcused absences, he had difficulty finding a way to explain that it was vital for him to have Trina in school and away from the house during the day. Now that she would be home for the rest of the week, he needed to find a way to hide his activities from his daughter.

"Trina got in trouble—"

A loud squeal jerked his head around in time to witness a vehicle leaving the pavement and
