Ink's Second Chance - Carol Dawn Page 0,3

many people and we are all incredibly proud of him.

But it doesn’t come without its trouble. This type of call isn’t uncommon. Most of the people at Infernal Haven are women hiding from an abusive partner.

This isn’t the first time someone has come looking for their partner, and it won’t be the last.

I straddle my Night Rod and make my way to the shelter. Hawk said Laura had everyone in the safe room, so that’s one less thing to worry about. Laura is Chains’ sister. She’s a certified grief counselor who co-owns her own practice with her new fiancée`, Brad.

Whenever Slim needs the extra help, Laura doesn’t hesitate to rush over and assist. She’s a good woman.

It only takes five minutes to get to Infernal Haven. Hawk pulls in seconds later followed by everyone else. Do we really need seven bikers storming in to deal with one man? No! But we make it clear that the Infernal Sons protect this building and everyone inside.

“Did Slim say if the man had any weapons?” Trigger asks.

“He told me he was just walking back and forth talking to himself,” Hawk answers. “Every minute or two he would stop, demand the woman, and threaten Phoenix if he didn’t bring her out.”

“Don’t kill the man, brother,” Bear says. “Let’s try to handle this calmly first and see how it goes.”

With a nod, Hawk marches for the entrance.

Hawk is the most reasonable of us all. Bear’s the stern one, Chains’ the calm one, Trigger’s the evil one, Brick’s the rough one, Wolf is the new guy, and I’m the funny and most handsome one.

So, I know, without a single doubt, that Hawk will have this taken care of without a single incident.

I follow Hawk inside and freeze. A man has Slim shoved against a wall with his hands squeezing Slim’s throat.

An inhuman sound reverberates around the room and I glance at Hawk in time to see him rush forward.

Well, fuck. So much for reasonable.

Chapter Three

Rachel

I am so tired of these inconsiderate, rude ass people.

“Then she told me that she was going to ask his brother.”

“No way! His brother?”

“Yes, way!”

I’ve been sitting in the middle of this isle for almost a minute now waiting on these two idiot females to kindly move to the side so I can get some dang bread. You would think after years of being confined to this chair that I would learn to speak out, but no.

It’s not that I’m shy. I just don’t like to feel like a burden. Which, when you depend on others for help, is an easy thing to feel.

I move my chair forward a little more hoping to catch their attention.

“There’s no way I would date his brother, he isn’t tall enough.”

“Excuse me,” I say, coming to a stop directly in front of them.

They both look down at me and then back at each other.

“Anyway,” one says as if she didn’t just acknowledge that I was here. “You’re absolutely right. He’s way too short.”

“Excuse me,” I say a little louder. “I really need to get behind you, please.” I nod at the woman on my left hoping she will understand and just slide over a little bit.

“Rude much,” she says. “Can’t you see we’re talking here?”

My mama always told me that I had the patience of a saint.

She was a liar. A saint has nothing on me.

“Listen,” I start calmly. “I just need to grab a loaf of that bread behind you. Or you can grab it for me. Either way, it will just take a second.”

“No, you listen.”

“Get the fuck out of her way, bitches.”

The new voice startles me, and I turn to see Sammy walking in my direction. Sammy has always been an attractive male. In high school, he had shoulder-length black hair, a pretty boy face that attracted both girls and boys, and a body that made all the football players jealous.

I was always a plain Jane. Nothing was ever special about my looks. Which is why I was surprised when he showed interest in me back then. And why I was devastated when I found out that sleeping with me was nothing more than a high school boy’s idea of a game.

But now, Sammy’s boyish good looks have vanished. Walking towards me now is nothing more than sex on legs. His hair is still black, but now it’s faded down on the sides and long on the top. He has it styled back in a perfectly arched wave.

His eyes are dark brown, his
