ever be that damn good in bed. It wasn’t fair, unless she could figure out a way to keep him, in which case it was more than fair he had the ability. She was certain the man even caused her to pass out at one point.

She stroked her hand across his chest again, her fingertips teasing his skin. This time his breathing slowed and she felt him tense for a brief moment. Her hand continued to brush across his chest as she leaned over and placed a kiss on his shoulder.

“Have you been awake long?” His voice, husky with sleep, sent warmth spiraling through her body.

“Not long. Your breathing changed. That must have been some nightmare you were fighting.” Gracie told him.

The bed moved as he shrugged. “It was nothing. An old memory maybe.”

She snorted. “It must have been one hell of a bad memory.”

“Doesn’t matter.” He looked over at the nightstand before rolling over and folding her in his arms again. He tucked her head against his chest and she felt his lips brush against her hair. “It’s still early, go back to sleep.”

She twisted a bit to get comfortable and reached out to stoke him again. Before her hand reached her target he captured it. Lacing his fingers through hers he tightened his grip and hugged her a little closer. Within seconds it his breathing evened out. As her eyes drifted shut again her thoughts were on Hendrix and how precious and wanted she felt in his arms.

Chapter Three

Hendrix snarled at the man standing in front of him and shook his head. “No.”

“Look, man, you don’t get the final say. Don’t like the deal, talk to Landel, not me. I am just following orders.”

“I thought you quit the organization.” Hendrix said. His glare could have frozen water.

“I am quitting. But until everything shakes out the man at the top decided I should second you.”

“I don’t need a new partner. I have a partner.”

“And if something happens to you like happened to Samson? What then? You kill your partner and go in alone? Or you kill your partner and call for backup from your Alpha?” Jeffery snorted. “You people are not indestructible. You are not invincible. And everyone from Landel down the line agrees on one thing. If the situation shakes out to where you have to make a choice, like Samson made, you will kill your partner before you give up your secret.” He shrugged. “I already know your secret so killing me would be pointless.”

“I don’t need a new partner and I damn sure don’t want one.” Hendrix said before turning around and walking away.

“You might not want one, but again, you don’t have a choice. Don’t like it, take it up with Gammon or Landel, not me. Besides, Gammon sent me with strict instructions to fill you in on somethings and I damn well am gonna fill you in.”

As Gammon’s name left Jeffery’s lips Hendrix whirled around, Faint snarls filled the air.

Jeffery’s eyebrows rose as he tilted his head to the side. “You know, you concern me. I won’t say you scare me. I have seen your people in action. I think I passed scared weeks ago. But as dangerous as you sound, as dangerous as I know you to be, I have met your Alpha and you have nothing on him. So you can puff your chest out, you can snarl, you can growl, hell you can piss on the ground and mark your territory for all I care. But Gammon gave me instructions and that man scares the shit out of me.”

“I don’t puff my chest out. I don’t like this situation.”

“Call it what you want. Your intimidation won’t work. Not after all I have seen these last few weeks. Now, I don’t know what thorn you have in your foot but you better pull it out and work with me here. You are a hard man, or whatever you call yourself, I have always known that, but no one ever told me you weren’t a fair man. I know we haven’t worked together much, but I know enough about you to know you aren’t overly attached to the partner you have now. You are comfortable with him, hell, with what I have figured out about your people I would go so far as to say you have the man trained without him even knowing it.” Jeffery saw Hendrix’s lips twitch. “Yeah, that’s what I thought. You have him trained. Well guess what, you
